GF 790AE Print-N-Privacy™ Light Etch Air-Egress is a 3.0 mil decorative polymeric glass etch vinyl coated with a solvent based permanent acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive with a 90# air egress (AE) liner. This film can either be applied printed or unprinted for etched glass visual effect or for use as a privacy film. The 90# AE liner offers easy dry application properties for large format graphics. GF 790AE accepts a variety of solvent-based, eco-solvent, latex and UV curable inks common to wide format digital printing systems.
Prepping the Glass surface:
- The application surface should be clean and free of any dirt, dust, grease, oil, wax, or foreign matter. Use a product such as Rapid Prep to clean many of these compounds. Clean the glass surface thoroughly with a non-ammonia based cleaner (Windex and other products have additives and may leave residue and they also have “surfactants” that can cause a bond failure between the substrate and the adhesive).
- This cleaning should be followed by a final wiping with isopropyl alcohol. (IPA/Rubbing alcohol 50/50).
- Use a window squeegee wherever possible to draw away most of the fluids.
- Dry the surface with a dry, lint-free towel or cloth.
- The flashing of the IPA may cool the surface quickly and cause possible condensation. Allow the surface to dwell for 10 minutes before applying the graphic.
Dry application is the preferred method of installing any vinyl graphics that have air-egress channels. The fluids can get trapped in the channels and cause the fluid to get trapped and bubbles will form.
Recommended Application Techniques:
790AE is a calendered vinyl and proper squeegee techniques are required. We recommend using application tape where possible. With application tape you can be more aggressive and use regular squeegees without fear of scratching the surface of the vinyl. Pre-mask also keeps everything flat, which decreases the instance of bubbles. In situations where you either cannot use or do not want to use application tape, we strongly recommend using a soft-edged or Teflon-covered squeegee. If you choose to use a hard-edged squeegee it is normal in some situations to see squeegee marks, or darker impressions where the edge of the squeegee had pushed down some of the air-egress channels, causing the vinyl to have dark lines throughout. These dark areas will disappear over 12-24 hours and the air-egress channels relax and wet-out.
